Maryland Deathfest - North America's biggest underground metal party of the year

5 years, 130 different bands representing 17 countries and several venue changes later, Maryland Deathfest (also referred to as simply "MDF") has developed into one of the most talked about underground metal festivals internationally.

The concept of the festival originated in the winter months of 2002 when the organizers, Ryan and Evan, were standing around bored at work and wrote the blueprint for the 2003 festival on the back of a menu. Over the years the turnout for the festival has seen a steady increase from 500 in 2003 to 1,500 in 2007. Bands from the US and 16 other countries have played the stage at MDF and metal fanatics from at least 40 states, Canada, Mexico, South America, numerous countries in Europe and as far as Australia make the travel to witness the show each year. The agenda of the MDF staff remains the same each year, and that is to book a high quality, hand-picked line up of bands representing the diversity of the extreme metal underground. The approach is obviously underground and DIY, yet a professional, refreshing touch has been added by the organizers who understand the scene and have supported this music for many years. We hope to see you at Sonar again in 2008 to celebrate 6 years of MDF!
